The  (ICFP), held in Nusa Dua, Indonesia on January 25-28, 2016, was met with much success. 2020 team participated in various presentations, sharing knowledge on topics including: innovations in family planning monitoring, expanding method choice and changing method mix, desire and unmet need for contraception, and more. (A full list of 海角换妻2020-affiliated presentations is here.)

Below are a few ICFP presentations that used 海角换妻2020 data in their analyses.

2020/Uganda data, authors looked at the proportion of women with a desire to use family planning methods but are not currently using, to examine what factors may explain reasons for intention to use. Findings suggest that knowledge about source of method and recent visit to a facility are important determinants of higher intentions to contraceptive use in the future.

2020/DRC data, authors assessed the effect of individual and community level determinants of modern contraceptive prevalence among 15-49 year-old married women in Kinshasa, DRC. Findings suggested that only age and number of living children were associated with modern method use.

2020/Nigeria data, authors examined the pattern of modern contraceptive use among 15-49 year-old women in Nigeria and the relationship between exposure to family planning (FP) messages in the preceding 12-months and current use. FP information acquired via televisions, newspapers or magazines and word-of-mouth at health facilities was low. Exposure to FP messages in health facilities was a predictor of current use of contraceptive method.

2020 Annual Principal Investigators Meeting

2020 held our third annual Principal Investigators (PIs) Meeting in Nusa Dua, ahead of ICFP, on January 22-25, where team members from Baltimore and our country partners gathered together.

PIs from the nine currently active program countries shared about progress made, common challenges and solutions, and innovations for the future. Examples of successes included: strong and continued collaboration with and support from government stakeholders; presentation of analysis of 海角换妻2020 data at various events; use of the platform for other surveys. Staff retention, safety of field staff and durability of phones were presented as some common challenges.

The last day of the meeting brought together our partners from  and  and representatives from our main funder, the , to discuss collaboration across the projects in the areas of data collection, data analysis, data utilization, and policy & program change.

Below are reflections of the meeting in the words of our PIs:

鈥淭he PI meeting provided an opportunity to hear how 海角换妻2020 survey-related activities are progressing in other sites; to share, and learn from similar successes, challenges and best practices鈥 to see old friends, and make new ones鈥 an excellent support network that individual country leaders can tap into.

鈥淭he meeting pointed out data quality as a major emphasis. I thus, found the PI meeting as a way to evaluate what we did in the past and to commit ourselves to do more quality work in the future.

鈥淭he topics discussed were relevant not only to DRC, but to the majority of countries involved; it was good to see that many other countries are facing similar challenges.

Thank you to our entire 2020 team. We look forward to convening again next year, and continuing to make progress.
